The garden of Eden was as good as it gets. God called everything in it “good”—including Adam and Eve. But it all changed with one choice and one action. That was all it took to affect the course of history forever. As a result, humanity was broken. It doesn’t take much effort to see that in the people around us. And if we’re honest, it doesn’t take much effort to see that in us as well. But the beauty in Jesus’ death and resurrection is that it redeems our brokenness. And in the process, we see part of God’s character we may never have seen otherwise.  Join us on Fridays at theadvance as we explore God’s character and what it means for us.

During March Break we don’t have any regularly scheduled events for theadvance.  However, if you’re interested, we are going to see John Carter at 3:50 at Cineplex Barrhaven on Friday, March 16.  It’s going to be awesome.  Meet us at the theatre.

We’ve all used words while being a little uncertain of the actual meaning. But when it comes to words like “belief,” “righteousness” and “salvation,” our understanding makes a huge difference in how we live our Christian faith and how we view God. So, we’re going to take a look at these commonly used words and figure out not only what they mean today but what they meant to the writers of the Bible thousands of years ago. And, in doing so, our aim is to let these new definitions teach us more about all God has for us and wants for us. In other words, over three weeks we are going to take what may have been lost in translation and recapture and rethink it in a way that could transform us in ways we never imagined.

This Friday night we are hosting a thousand students and the bands To Tell and 905.  We’d love for you to join us at this ‘student launch’ event for Rock The River, a music festival happening in September.  It’s a  free concert and is going to be a lot of fun.  See you there!

Due to the really bad weather, we’ve decided to cancel theadvance tonight.  Stay home, stay safe, watch a movie, play video games and we’ll see you next week at the retreat and the week after at the concert.

Not many people would place themselves in the path of a moving object. Well, not most sane people. But if you understand the principle of collision, then you put yourself out there. You think about what you need to do, who you need to intersect with to make change happen. With whom or with what do you need to collide? The Good Fight series exposes the truth about family life: All families fight. We just fight about and for different things, and we fight in different ways. Some families are very vocal; others quietly stuff their frustrations inside. But regardless of how families fight, every family decides what they are going to fight over. Fighting about rules and issues will always drive us apart, but there is another way. What if we began to fight for relationship? What if our sole objective was to know each other and to honor each other? The Good Fight encourages us to stay in the fight and never give up on our relationship with our parents.  Join us on Friday at 6:45pm as we jump in to this topic.

You asked for it and now you’ve got it!  Next Friday night, after theadvance we are doing our first ever Senior High overnight.  Girls will be chillin at someone’s house, having a great time together doing what girls love to do: Fondue, girly movies, talking about life and pillow fights.  Guys are sticking around the church for things that guys find fun: Nerf, video games (we’re massive multiplayer ready), floor hockey and amazing food that gets you hyper and rots your gut.  We are super stoked about this event and we hope that you can all join us.  The cost is $15 and it’s open to anyone in grades 9 to 12.
